The Map of Elvira
The Story Behind the Map
This map is hand-drawn by me, the author. Being a self-published author has its challenges and constraints. One of those challenges is being able to create the art and illustrations yourself or hire someone to complete them for you.
Every good fantasy book needs a beautiful fantasy map. This world needed to have one. So, after countless hours looking for someone to draw it (in an affordable price range) I eventually settled on having my brother (an art major) try his hand at it.
And simply put, we had different visions.
Which led me to draw out what I envisioned to the best of my abilities, and, to my surprise, is what you are staring at on the left. Well, a less crisp version.
We were then able to take my drawing, ink it in Photoshop, and add some texture to really give it the map feel.
But honestly, I am so proud to be able to say that I hand-drew the map and that my handwriting made it into the book. It feels so much more personal and hand-crafted.
And we were able to use my brother's illustration talent on the kingdom banners displayed in the appendix.
